A hoodie is a type of sweatshirt with a hood that, when worn up, covers most of the head and neck, and sometimes the face. The name 'hoodie' entered popular usage in the 1990s. According to Oxford English Dictionary, the term is also colloquially used in British and Irish English to describe a hooligan or thug.
